EVERYONE SHOULD BE A KINDLE USER!!

Hey everyone, if you've got the kindle app. downloaded on your computer, phone, or tablet you can download The Scarlet Letter for free. It's free because it's one of their classics they give away (lucky for us American Literature students). Also if you don't have a kindle application seriously look into it. I have loved the last 3 days because I've been able to easily read this book without the bulk of all the pages of the anthology. I can also change the font size and background color. These options have been helpful when I need a change of scenery but need to continue reading the book. Kindle is truly a blessing. Last pod I was able to download Uncle Tom’s Cabin and I had an easier time reading it as well. Best part is that it's FREE. If you're interested in any of these features and don't have a Kindle application. Go to Amazon.com and log in (if you don't have an account, as a student it's worth it to have one), look for the Kindle section on the left hand column, click into that and look for a way to get Kindle on your PC. All you have to do is register your computer to the site and as soon as you have it downloaded.. search for The Scarlet Letter and download it. You'll be reading the book in less than 1 minute (guaranteed by amazon haha). I hope you've all been enlightened :) have a wonderful day!

As we enter this pod, I think it’s a good time to connect my blog to the reading. I’ve been waiting to do a movie-to-book with this novel. I’m very excited to read The Scarlet Letter mostly because not too long ago I saw the movie Easy A. It’s like this movie was trying to do a modern day version. I haven’t read The Scarlet Letter so I can’t say for sure.

The movie is about a girl who is accused of being someone who sleeps around. She has a friend that has the image of a girl that sleeps around. In the beginning of the story the character is a normal every day teenager going to high school. Then one day her and her friend were talking and her friend accuses her of sleeping with someone and then the story snowballs. Lie after lie until at the end everything come out into the open. The sex that wasn't happening and reasons she lied. I’m interested in seeing how the counselor in the movie (the one that is promoting abstinence but is really the corrupt one) will play out in the book. Maybe there was more they were copying then just the A on the main characters clothes that marked her status. Anyone that has seen the movie have any guesses how this might turn out?

Fight Club the Movie

Fight Club was a good movie. It always surprises me what they decide to leave in and take out of the book. I can understand changing the ending to make the story more “Hollywood” and I’ve seen this in the last two books-to-movies I’ve watched.  In the movie ending, the alternate personality of the main character is shown with a hole through the back of his head. But that’s not how it goes in the book. I’m trying to remember what happened and all I can think is he ends up in prison somehow. Also I remember saying in my last post that this book has a love story in it. Well in the movie they don’t show it as much. There were several scenes left out where Marla was hanging out with the main character, not the alternate personality. And no, they never did give the main character a name. There was only the alternate personality, Tyler Durden. In the ending of the book, I remember all the people from the support groups he attends in the beginning of the story coming to his rescue and telling him he’s got support and doesn’t need to kill his self and blow up the building. In the movie.. he shoots himself and kills the alternate personality but he only shot through his neck (or so it seemed). Then he’s standing there with Marla watching all the buildings fall that were to blow up. It was all a little twisted around; all the famous scenes from the book were there minus the ending. There were also parts they added; like putting Marla on a bus to save her life. I guess overall, I liked this book-to-movie better than any of the others because I knew exactly was they were going for. Maybe that’s why when I asked a friend what his opinion was on fight club his reply was “I don’t know about that movie, it was really hard to follow but that makes me wonder what the books like.” After finishing this project, I called him up and told him he had to read the book. If he would have read the book he would know what was going on and where it was coming from. This is why I would suggest to everyone, in the case of Fight Club, to read the book first!! Happy reading and watching everyone!
